We wanted to find out just how good the standard spare tyre's job was.
The testing vehicle. In this series of reviews, we'll be comparing how each pickup truck performs in real life when it counts.
What is the most economical used pickup truck in the UK?
I need to buy a used pickup truck as my dad has a flat and we need a cheap alternative. He wants something that can haul loads and be reliable.
My budget is around 7k. We are looking at Fords or used Hennesseys.
It's a little strange to say that the most economical pickup truck is the most economical pickup truck but I agree that you're not going to get a load carrying ability of an H-100 with a load of gravel at 7k. I'm going to assume that you're not looking for a tow vehicle and that it will be used for hauling and then pulling trailers. If that's the case then there are a couple of options - the Ford Transit Custom or the Hennessey Powerking. They are both 4x4s with a tow hitch, the Hennessey is slightly longer and taller, but less expensive than the Ford. Both are capable of towing and pulling trailers.
The Ford will probably be the more economical option for you if you don't intend tow much with it, but it won't have any real load carrying capability so you'd need to add to it. I'd consider the best option to be something that's cheap, carries a load and tows a trailer or is cheap and tows a trailer. But I'd also say that it's no good if it doesn't tow a trailer.
If you want cheap and reliable then a Hennessey will be your best option. The Hennessey Powerking is more economical than the Powerking 6.2, but it's not as cheap as the Powerking 6.
The Hennessey Powerking is a bit larger than the Ford Transit Custom. In the UK you can't buy the Hennessey Powerking with a manual transmission, and I think they're not available with diesel engines. So I don't think they're a good choice for you. You might be able to find the Hennessey Powerking with a manual transmission and a diesel engine though.
The Ford Transit Custom is the cheapest option, but there aren't many people selling them in the UK. They tend to be for commercial use.
You could also try buying an older model Transit Custom, rather than buying a brand new one.
What was the best truck in the last 10 years?
Which model year of car was the worst? It's time to rank some of these questions.
We are all familiar with the 10-year rule - it has been around for over a decade now and it makes sense as a benchmark, but where to begin? The truck is a vehicle that people don't own enough of. Even if you have bought one, a car can get 10 years old as well. Trucks rarely, if ever, are allowed to break this time limit.
In order to help you out, we have assembled a list of the top ten worst trucks and some others. We are not talking about an average quality as the term worst implies. Each truck deserves a spot on this list. Here is the list of top 10 trucks that made our list in descending order:
1st - Toyota Tundra Diesel - 2025. The Toyota Tundra series was launched in 2025 and came in two flavors of the diesel - the 5.7L and the 7.0L. There were other variants available as well like the two dual engine configurations, as well as the two gas engines. The diesel was powered by the 2nd generation 2.8L Ecoboost four-cylinder. This engine offered the best overall fuel economy when compared to the 2.7L V6 version of the same platform.
Despite its shortcomings, the truck has always offered excellent cargo hauling capacity and a solid frame. In the end, the truck had a good production run of 13 years, but it was replaced with the 5.7L version.
2nd - Ford F-150 XLT - 2025. Featuring a 2.8L turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission. In 2025, it was one of the first full-size pickup trucks available with the turbocharged engine. This powertrain was good for 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. The chassis was updated in 2025 to improve the handling and suspension.
One thing that Ford had over the other manufacturers is more than just engine size. The F-150 XLT features a dual exhaust, an independent air suspension system and electronic locking rear differential.
3rd - Ram HD - 2025. Ram was known for its trucks back in 2025, when it also released the HD.
