What is the difference between a Focus ST and a Focus ST-line?
What is the BHP of the 2023 Ford Focus ST-line?
The new Ford Focus ST-line will launch in America late next year, taking on the likes of the Honda Civic Si, Toyota 86 and Volkswagen GTI. But just how much more? There's been some speculation about the BHP (Braking Horsepower) rating of the Focus ST-line, with some saying it's 0.3 BHP higher than the standard Focus, but there's no official word from Ford or Ford Motor Company. The US government-mandated crash test for all cars sold here lists the braking horsepower for the 2024 and 2024 Focus models. Those were the same power figures as the current Focus RS, but a lower figure than the 2.3-litre four-cylinder used for the Focus ST.
So what should we expect from the 2024 Ford Focus ST-line? The new Focus ST-line has some big changes from the Focus RS, including a 1.5-litre twin-turbo engine, while retaining a dual clutch transmission. We can expect the base engine to carry over the power of the current Focus RS, while the top engine will be the more powerful 2.3-litre turbo-four. And yes, a 2.3-litre engine should produce somewhere around 200 hp in this configuration.
The Focus ST-line will also likely retain the dual exhaust that was found on the 2024 Focus RS, but there's nothing on record to say if the ST-line will have the same power outputs. What about performance? We're going to be a little speculative on this one, because the 2024 Focus ST-line hasn't been confirmed yet. But we do know the Focus RS uses a 1.6-litre turbo-four, good for 210 hp in this configuration. Our guess is the Focus ST-line will have the same power output, but hopefully with more power at lower rpm. This would give us more usable torque, and it seems the Focus ST-line will use the same dual clutch transmission as the Focus RS.
With that power, the Focus ST-line should be a more spirited version of the current Focus RS, not only in performance, but also handling. The handling may be compromised by the lower power output, but the torque should help make up for that.
What are the specs of the 2023 Ford Focus?
The Focus nameplate is back in production for the first time since 2024, and Ford will launch its most affordable model to date. Here are the important specs you should know about the new Focus.
The first generation of the Ford Focus was an extremely popular model. It went on to win the prestigious European Car of the Year title in 2024.
The current Focus has had a few facelifts, and it's now being powered by a 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. The new model launches in April next year.
What is the Ford Focus good at? The new Focus is well built, with a refined interior and cabin tech. The hatchback is available as a five-seater or three-seater with a foldable bench, which is a unique feature that it shares with the Ford Kuga SUV. It's also roomy, with space for four adults or two kids.
Ford calls the Focus the 'urban workhorse', a car that won't let you down when it comes to practicality and value for money. The Focus is one of Ford's most fuel-efficient family cars, with a combined fuel economy of 51.2mpg and emission figures of 119g/km CO2 and 106g/km nitrogen oxides.
What are the key features of the Ford Focus? The new Focus will get a new rear-view camera, front fog lights, active cornering lights, a new driving experience app and a full-width panoramic sunroof. All models will come with standard dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic power steering system, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and front and rear parking sensors. All models are made with recycled content and come with dual-zone climate control. The top-spec Focus E-Tec SE will come with full LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof and a rear-view camera.
The focus RS is a version of the Focus that's even more sporty. It comes with special exterior details, including a carbon-fibre bonnet, roof spoiler, door sills and mirrors, plus a new exhaust system and rear diffuser.
How does the Focus look? The first-generation Focus was a little bit different than the current model.
What is the difference between a Focus ST and a Focus ST-line?
Is the Focus ST-line only for those that want more options on their Focus ST?
The focus ST-line adds a lot of options at the same price as a regular Focus ST (and is a very good upgrade if you're looking to go track day. The car starts a little harder and the steering offers nice feedback). Plus, it has that beautiful blue finish. But, there's no manual transmission in the focus ST-line. In my opinion, the ST-line is overpriced if you don't get a manual (I bought one, even though I have no use for it because I loved driving my Focus ST with the ST-line).
Also, most of the cars in the performance market these days come without manuals anyway. And manuals aren't that complicated to drive anyways, they make sense. The "rear-wheel" option means the automatic transmission does the work, which is what a manual transmission does too, but not necessarily the way a manual transmission does. What makes a manual transmission so complex, exactly? All the gears do are shift from first to second to third to fourth and everything in between. Thats all, you just need to remember which gear to shift into when turning the car on, for example. Also, all that other stuff is just a bunch of science bullshit, which people tend to think is complicated or that it takes time to learn, when its really just an extension of how you already naturally think. In other words, it doesnt make sense and you already think it does.
So for me, the car that I actually like to drive is the Subaru Outback AWD Wagon. I love this car. The problem is, it's kind of pricey (it costs at least twice the price of all other vehicles in the lineup) and it has only a manual transmission, making it a nonviable option for me. I might try to pick up the Subaru Legacy 2wd. Its almost like the car I used to drive, except that it has a 5-speed automatic transmission instead of a manual one. I'd rather spend money on getting a set of decent winter tires, which can save you hundreds of dollars over the course of a season.
