A reader asked us the question How much should I expect to pay for a used RV? While there are many factors that go into buying a new or used RV, pricing one out is tough. Factors such as age of the motor home, level of quality of the RV, size of the RV, and the location that it is being sold from will all play a part in your decision making process. Many times these are the biggest factors in your decision making.
Factors such as the mileage and/or condition of the motor home, and more importantly the overall condition of the RV, will play a huge factor in your purchasing decision. Many times the only way to know is to visit the RV yourself and do an inspection. If you are unsure about doing this, check with local RV dealers who are usually willing to assist with a pre-purchase inspection on their inventory.
We asked the following questions and answered them on our website at www.rvlife.com:
Question: I am planning on buying a 5th wheel. Do you have any recommendations on how much I should expect to spend? Answer: This is a good question to ask. What the exact question here is, how much you would like to pay for your 5th wheel. How much you want to spend will depend on many things such as what you want, how you want to camp, if you are buying a towable, etc.
This is a great question to ask, because no one really knows what it is going to cost. In the past, we have had people who are ready to jump in and buy a towable thinking that they could just bring it home and just turn the key and head out. Unfortunately, it is not that easy. Depending on where you live, you need to have the right insurance and be prepared for a large deductible. Most new towable manufactures have very limited warranties, and there are other unforeseen problems that can be found when trying tow a new towable home.

How about a 12'x60" house?
We all have a certain 'type' of RV we prefer to stay in. However what if that RV or house is only available for you to stay in for two to three days and it only has 6 foot overhangs on both sides and the house is only 7 feet high.or 8 feet high? Is the house really that much less valuable because it's taller than most homes in Canada.

How do I find the market value of my motorhome?
I am selling my motorhome. What is the best way to find the market value? I think that you may want to contact a real estate agent. When it comes to selling a home there is a lot of money that goes into making the home appear as the best that it is. Even though your motorhome is not in perfect condition, it will look much better than a run-down vehicle. The more expensive it looks the more it will sell for.
You can easily find out the market value of your motorhome through online resources, but that is not exactly an accurate way to do so. In order to get an accurate estimate of the motorhome's worth, you will have to get an appraisal. The appraisal is not just about the value of the home, but also about the condition of the home, the neighborhood it is located in, the appliances and equipment included, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and the overall layout of the home.
How to sell my motorhome. There are a few things that you need to consider before selling your motorhome. To begin with, it is vital to set up a price range and make sure that you meet it. Do not try to over-sell your motorhome since it can come across as desperate. You might want to consider renting it to someone for a couple of months if you know that you will not be using it in the near future.
How much will it cost me to buy a motorhome? When purchasing a new motorhome, you will have to pay for the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). The MSRP is the price that the manufacturer recommends for the particular model of motorhome that you are purchasing. However, you can find better deals on a used motorhome as compared to a new one. In most cases, a used motorhome will cost less than its MSRP.
This is because when you purchase a new motorhome, you have to pay for the cost of labor, materials, storage, shipping, dealer profit, and other expenses that come along with the manufacturing process. The total cost of buying a new motorhome is usually several thousand dollars more than the MSRP. On the other hand, a used motorhome is mostly free of those expenses since they have already been paid off.
