Over 250,000 a year fail their first MoT

With data from the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency (VOSA) filtered by a car comparison service, the figures show that over one quarter of a million cars received some sort of fail in their first MoT test, which must be performed at most three years from when the vehicle was first registered.
Topping the list of vehicles most likely to pass their first MoT is the Toyota iQ, which passed 91.8% of it's 2,835 tests this year. Coming second on the list is the Honda Jazz, passing 90.4% of the 15,441 MoTs taken for it this year. And third, another Honda, this time the CR-V, passing 89.8% of it's 7,072 MoTs.
70% of the top ten cars most likely to pass their first MoT are from Japanese manufacturers, with the Lexus brand having the best overall pass rate, passing 89.4% of it's MoTs this year.
All cars in the survey were first registered in 2010, and their first MoTs were taken out this year. For sake of brevity, any model which had less than 1,000 MoTs this year was not included in the survey.
