Ford Fiesta wins MPG Marathon title for second time
The exact Fiesta model was the ECOnetic Titanium, with a 1.6 litre diesel engine. Two members of the Leicestershire County Council, Rosemary Homer and Nick Chapman, were the drivers of the car during the annual eco-marathon, and covered 339.3 miles whilst achieving an 89.69 mpg.
The yearly event is a test of driving efficiency, as the course must be completed whilst using as little fuel as possible. The organisers named this year's course as the most difficult yet devised, stating near Sheffield at Tankersley Manor, and going on to steep hills and winding road, and then into heavy traffic, and also having to deal with 45 other competitors all trying to outdo you.
Ford also won in the LCV section of the marathon, with a Fiesta Sport Van driven by members of the transportation news team at the BBC, Paul and Doug Clifton. This team managed to achieve a massive 108.82 mpg, covering 362.9 miles. Like the Fiesta car, the Fiesta Sport Van also features a 1.6 litre diesel engine, and also has a lowered suspension and an automatic start/stop system.
With such impressive mpg values, whilst also keeping emissions of CO2 low, it is no wonder that the green-minded driver is favouring Ford vehicles at the moment.
