Is it worth selling my car on Auto Trader?
I would really like to have my old car off my drive but how much should it be worth. I know its a very old banger but I'm getting the feeling that a lot of people just buy and sell all new cars on this car park thing lol, not a real business as they only offer you 40 if you want 10 and so on lol, and their cars go for a load on the website lol is this true? Please also help if you are selling one on the site.
I am interested in your situation - what was the age of the car? Would any good price for a vehicle be 30K? Also have you any idea of what your next step might be if you decide to do so? Sorry to hear about your car. I doubt it will be worth 30k, not when there are newer cars out with more power and reliability of the car. The main factor about selling a car is that we need to sell something else to pay for our new car.
I have tried selling a few cars on ebay, but I never get past 1000 and I am never confident to bid on a higher price as I know someone is probably going to bid against me. It is a waste of my time and I never get the desired amount I ask for. Selling your own car on to a dealer seems like the best way to go as you get paid immediately by auto trader and if the market is high and they don't have the car they will pay for more of a car. There's no selling time and the car costs you nothing to try. Have a look at my site.
Thanks everyone. Yes the car is quite a while old. When it started up it wouldn't work anymore. Had it converted into a campervan (still no fuel cap) then the motor suddenly failed completely and now is on its 3rd fan belt and is just collecting dust! But the rest is complete apart from the rear brake drums as there is no hub cover (that's what happened to mine). But I thought about the brakes and what I could do to it as the brakes are complete - new pads fitted and disc in place (forwards and backwards). Also when working it would stop suddenly without warning.

What is the performance rating on Auto Trader?
Is it based on the price it will fetch, or simply a measure of reliability (or another factor)?
I think that Auto Trader is mainly about price, but we have a "guarantee" that we'll return it to where we found it if it doesn't get sold. This means if it goes below the price we originally paid for it in a particular area (within a 50 mile radius, usually) then I'll pay up if I still have the car. However, if I get rid of it I won't be paying for any more journeys back and forth! So it's really about the car, not about what Auto Trader says.
As for reliability - well, the main problem is that our cars only tend to last about 10,000 miles, due to maintenance issues etc. So any mileage above 20,000 is an achievement. I don't think of those miles as being part of the "reliability" as such.
If you get a reasonable mileage out of the car, then the price will depend a lot on how far you drive and whether or not the car breaks down. ? Is it based on the price it will fetch, or simply a measure of reliability (or another factor)? This means if it goes below the price we originally paid for it in a particular area (within a 50 mile radius, usually) then I'll pay up if I still have the car. Thanks Chris. It must depend on the particular car.
