51,000 cars recalled as Nissan concerned about steering wheel
The vehicles in question are thought to have been manufactured between February 27th 2012 and May 16th 2012, with about 7,000 of the Qashqai models being produced at Nissan's Sunderland plant. The recall comes following a cameraman in Finland reporting a steering wheel detaching from his Qashqai+2. Nissan approximates that the number of steering wheels to be substituted could be up to 600. The replacement process is thought to take around 20 minutes.
In addition to the 7,000 cars recalled in the UK, there are 44,000 additional vehicles that were exported to Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and Oceania. Despite the fault thought to only be effecting about 600 vehicles, the full recall is a "precautionary measure".
A mediator for Nissan said: "Nissan retailers will inspect the casting date of the steering wheel armature and where necessary replace the steering wheel at no cost to the customer."
Nissan supplemented that they are "working with its dealers to promptly address this issue".
