1,700 jobs to be created at Jaguar plant
In the future, JLR are looking to use an advanced form of aluminium in it's vehicles, in an attempt to offer strength and durability as well as being lightweight. A mid-sized sports saloon Jag is thought to be the first to use this material, scheduled to be released for some time in 2015.
This, as well as other expansion plans, were unveiled by the chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover, Dr Ralf Speth, at the start of the Frankfurt Motor Show. He went on to state that the new materials that JLR will be using for the architecture of their vehicles will make them more accessible for drivers wishing to own a premium car.
He went on to comment on the flexibility that their advanced aluminium will give the company, enabling them to produce vehicles more quickly. Their investment in Solihull is not only for the employment of new workers, but also to upgrade their supply chains.
The West Midlands are to be 1,700 jobs richer in the coming months, as workers and specialists are employed to work on JLR's new materials. When recruitment has taken place, JLR will have made around 11,000 automotive manufacturing jobs in the UK alone in the past few years.
