An avatar is not just a teacher. He is the ultimate authority. He is like God.

Hridayananda: And what is the ultimate truth? Siddhartha: The ultimate truth is the Divine. Hridayananda: And how do you know it's the Divine? Siddhartha: The Divine is beyond words. It can only be known through experience.
