In the world of the UK car market there are more than 4,000 different dealers. To help you sort through them all here is our breakdown of the top ten biggest car dealers in the UK.
The list below is in no particular order, so the dealership with the most cars doesn't necessarily mean they have the highest sales. Ford Motor Company. Ford is the oldest car dealer in the UK. The brand was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford and started selling cars in 1908. Ford has grown to be the biggest car brand in the UK with 5 million cars sold since 2024. The company's success is largely down to the legendary 'Model T' and its iconic black box shape.

When cars were made from wood and fabric (like a bicycle), it was possible to make everyone happy all the time, and it still is possible today, but we have come a long way. Most cars are sold to people who have some idea of how they will make them feel and act. We all like to keep things clean and tidy. Most of us prefer to be with people we like. If we cannot understand why we like something, we assume that it is wrong or bad. Many people would prefer a more exciting lifestyle than we could offer. All of these factors tend to make people feel more at home or more happy than at a place with a lot of competition or that charges too much. So many factors can change how your purchase of a car makes you feel. And just when you think that the experience can be nothing short of delightful, it turns out to be even worse. But it's worth it to be at a dealership that makes you feel more at home, or that charges only a little bit more.
So how do we go about making this kind of business, one in which the customer is king? I do not know the answer to that question, but I suspect we need a lot of education, patience and tolerance to make it happen. Perhaps the more important elements to success are the ones you can't control.
