It's never been a top selling model, but it's always been known for being reliable and capable. We've never heard much about the current generation, but it looks like the new Ford Focus 2024 has a few changes for it. The Focus 2024 is still a front-wheel drive compact, with a five-cylinder engine. So what are the changes?
Engine. The engine is the most important part of a car. This is the one that's going to get the majority of your gas mileage, and will be the one that determines how your car feels on the road. The 2024 Ford Focus gets a new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that's capable of 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine is standard on all trims, except for the base SE trim.
It gets a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the front wheels. The engine gets some of the fuel economy benefits of the hybrid powertrain from the next generation Fusion, and it's capable of getting 28 MPG in the city, and 38 MPG on the highway.
The Focus 2024 will also get the first application of this technology to a non-hybrid vehicle. Ford claims the system is capable of improving fuel economy by up to 10 MPG, without compromising performance or refinement.

How do I know what the Focus is like? No, don't tell me about looking online for reviews, because I've done that. In fact, I took a look at the reviews for the Focus right after it was unveiled to the public in the form of a press conference in Detroit back in 2024, but I was unimpressed. When it looked interesting in 2024, I wasn't particularly interested, either.
The reason? There simply aren't any reviewers out there who can objectively judge what it's like to drive. Not just in the new Ford model lineup, but with all vehicles. It's simply not possible, and the average auto reviewer has never, ever driven, let alone paid more than ten dollars per gallon, to afford to test drive a vehicle such as the Focus. It just doesn't happen, they claim.
But that means one thing: if you read reviews, you're only getting a third or fourth-hand account of what you should think of the car. In some ways, how the Focus ST feels during city driving may be similar to how the Ecosport feels in the mountains when it pulls a big V-8 to life; but unless we're looking at it ourselves, most of us are blind to what that difference is. And that makes it difficult to tell whether the Focus ST feels better than the EcoSport on flat surfaces, let alone hills. That's because it feels too difficult to get away with putting that on an objective scale.
So for this post, I'm going to do something very special: I'm going to go on two long drives; one in the city and one on the highway, and I'm going to compare the overall comfort and fun of the Focus ST, the Hyundai Elantra GT and the Mazda 2, to see what I can tell. I'm going to do it as objectively as I can, but keep in mind that no reviewer who drives a car can truly claim what it's like to drive that vehicle. Reviews like these are only pieces of information, and not every reader will agree with them, but that's why I'm doing it, to take away this blind spot in automotive journalism.

Ford just recently announced pricing on the new 'Focus 1. The 2.0L isn't there yet at a guess. There's only two models under the base 'EcoBoost' name. As you know most all EcoBoost's are tuned for the most performance they can be. It's an American company that can afford to give us what we want, right?
This time around though I feel I must say something about all the noise being made by these EcoBoost engines. They aren't cheap but neither are they all that bad. They do use E85 ethanol fuel, making them less expensive than most. They do need some power to get the job done but then if you weren't going to get it from a small turbo diesel anyway why would you go this route? No other engine or fuel combination will get away with such a bad reputation from being too cheap to use. That's right cheap doesn't always equal bad. The bottom line with these is, how much money are you willing to waste on the gas? The price is the least of my problems, the most that concerns me is how well they will function in your life, or in a long term relationship. I am already looking at the after market for that.
So, are they good or bad, is it really that hard to read through their history from my initial post? Thanks for the input guys, always been a fan of Ford, and will continue to be one till the day they stop making them. No! They aren't good and they don't run well. These things don't run well because Ford only uses cheap components and cheap engineering practices. I worked as an IT developer before being a mechanic in the Army for a while. When I got out I started working on engines and eventually became a diesel technician. That was back in 2007-2008 when the diesel technology took off like crazy.
