Which online used car buying site is best?
What is the 12 car rule in the UK?
The 12 Car Rule operates in the UK for the purpose of obtaining insurance quotes from the majority of insurers. The 12 Car Rule is when you have more than 12 cars insured by a single insurer or 12 vehicles insured as one car in a 12 month period. The 12 Car Rule does not apply to motorcycles, motorbikes or vans. As a result, those who may fall into the 12 Car Rule will not be quoted a premium using the standard policy. In these circumstances, an individual quote is needed and a separate motorcycle / car policy may be needed.
Although the 12 Car Rule applies to cars, it does not apply to most other types of insurance including business insurance, vehicle and contents insurance. However, all insurance brokers would expect any clients that are considered at risk under the 12 Car Rule to purchase excess business insurance in order to meet the extra cost requirements of the extra cover they need.
The 12 Car Rule was introduced by the Association of British Insurers in 1993, in an attempt to simplify and reduce the administrative burden of having multiple policies and multiple renewal. Although, with some insurers the rules are not enforced, some carriers may ask you why you are covered under two policies (even if one policy is for a van). For example, let's say that you have 2 cars insured with Direct Line;. 1 car which is your family car and you drive it most days;. 1 car which is your company car and you drive it on days when you are at work. One policy covers your company car and one policy covers your personal car. Direct Line only require your personal car to be insured, if you are found to be driving your company car, they may consider you to be taking an additional risk, as they will have reason to believe that you will be negligent whilst driving the company car on private business.
In addition, they will ask you if you have two policies (which is the default requirement for people who are considered 'at risk') and whether or not you need two policies or just one. So, do you need two policies or can you get away with one? As long as you have a clear explanation of why you need two policies and what your circumstances are; there is no reason you should not be able to avoid paying for two policies.

Which online used car buying site is best?
Ive never purchased a vehicle through the internet. I was curious if there are any particular sites I should look at before going to a dealership. Ive looked at sites like the carmax, kbb and kbbk. What are other sites you would recommend? Thanks for any help!
If you are new to buying vehicles online, be sure to research the dealer in advance. This will tell you a lot about what to expect from the dealer. It's OK to visit the dealer in person, but it's a huge mistake to buy a car without visiting the dealer beforehand.
I'm not going to give you any recommendations about the dealers you mentioned. It's not really my business to tell someone how to do business.
Thanks for your feedback on the auto sales sites. It seems that people who purchase online are mostly looking for a way to make a transaction less expensive, or to shop for a better deal. I dont have an issue with the sites you mentioned. I do have a question about them. When you make a purchase, is that in their site, or does that occur on your credit card statement? I have always thought of purchases made in dealerships as being "guaranteed" by the dealership. Am I wrong in that assumption? Do you feel that your experience with the carmax and kbb sites is less than satisfactory?
The fact that you aren't a happy camper says a lot about how they are doing. I've never used any of those sites. I bought my last used car online. The seller I bought from was very, very fair. He didn't seem to be trying to rip me off, but he was selling the car to me at what he thought was a fair price.
It's a big turn-off to get ripped off when buying a used car online. So I am very comfortable buying from them. You have to realize that each site is different. The same applies to the dealers themselves. You may be able to find a good deal at one place, and a horrible one at another. And vice versa.
You can't guarantee that you're getting a good deal from any site or any dealer. If you want to buy online, then you should have the same criteria for shopping at a dealership that you would have for shopping anywhere else. You should shop around, get several bids and buy from the best deal that you can get.
