I currently have an old 1.6l VW Polo and i'm not too keen on buying another one. I've looked at the A3 and the Focus, both of which are a little more expensive to operate in the long run.

I was wondering if anyone knew about the reliability of the new Peugeot 407? I have heard mixed things but also that the old 1.6 VW's are still used as tax dodgers as they are economical, is this true? To make my question even clearer, I was thinking that the A3 would be the best option as I could afford it, but also be reliable. I'm looking for a car that would be very economical in fuel consumption, and not just cheap to buy but cheap to operate.

It seems that these days, a lot of cars (especially petrol) are more economical than they used to be, so it's hard to know what is the cheapest to run. Thanks for any advice. EDIT: As people seem to be struggling with this, i'm adding that it's a personal matter and that I'm not asking for advice on buying or choosing a car, just the cheapest to run as I'm looking to buy one. The only car in your list which can be reliable with a small engine is the Renault Megane! I believe the average price of petrol at the moment in the UK is around 1.60 a litre.

Here's the most cost effective way of saving money in terms of fuel (ie it's cheaper to drive): 1) drive less miles - the less you drive, the cheaper it is to drive. 2) use lower powered engines (in order of lowest power to highest) - the smallest engines are the cheapest to run. 3) keep your average speed down - the higher your average speed, the more fuel you use per mile. 4) use low gears - the higher your revs, the more power the engine has and the more fuel it uses. Lower gears means you can travel a given distance in a shorter time, and with less power.

5) don't overtax yourself - get up early, stay late, use the stairs, ride a bike to work. There's no real rule of thumb - it really depends on how much you drive, how many miles you drive and your car's performance.

The Accord is the best car for this, hands down. It's a comfortable car, handles well, and its interior is very roomy. The Mazda6 is the closest thing to a minivan for most people. It's smaller than the Accord and has an even better interior. The Buick and VW are the other two you can consider, but they're a little bigger and heavier than the others.

So I am new to the whole blogging world and I am very new to second hand cars. I have always wanted to buy a second hand car but haven't had the money to do so, I thought I'd share my experience with you and you could offer some advice if you know any better than I do.

Basically I want to start off small, so I don't have a big expense right away. I do drive my parents car for work, as well as drive my dad's in my car. But I would like to get a good second hand car that will last me a long time so that my parents' car won't have to be replaced anytime soon. And of course not spend a lot of money on it.

I don't want something that is going to be in the shop and is going to be a problem to maintain. I also don't want something that will be a problem to drive, and will break down on me.

My parents are quite financially sound, as they have their own business and have a solid income. I know I am not wealthy, but I don't mind paying a bit more than what I am making now. My parents are still paying for their cars and cars have just kept getting older. So I don't think I am being extravagant in wanting to do this.

And I have seen all these ads about the Mazda 3, so I am wanting to get one for my first car. It would be a sedan, preferably dark blue, with a manual transmission. My dad has been telling me that the Mazda 3 is a "pretty decent" car.

I am going to keep looking for a good deal one, or at least one that will work for me. Can anyone recommend a good car to get? Please tell me some pros and cons as well. Any input is greatly appreciated. I also am looking forward to your advice on where to buy from. Thank you so much!

Comments. To be honest, I have no idea how old your parents' cars are, or even how old your dad's car is. If you're just looking for a used Mazda 3, then you may want to start searching online for a used car in the price range that your budget allows. This way, you'll know ahead of time if the price of the vehicle is good or not.
