The new, all-wheel-drive model? It might have a twin-turbo V6 making 553 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The new diesel? It's an eight-speed automatic diesel with about 200 hp, plus torque figures in the 400s. Or we might get a hybrid.

Or maybe we'll go all-electric like the Model Y? I've been covering the EV transformation of the trucking industry for almost a decade now, and what I've observed is that it is not a quick fix but a gradual process. The current trend that I see in my area is more electric towing. With the Tesla Model 3, and even the Ford Focus Electric now being available, I am surprised how fast things are changing. It's a little slow in our corner of Florida but I expect more trucks will have plug-ins soon, maybe not full on plug-ins. But as a lot of the manufacturers start offering this option more, you will see more and more electrification in our trucks and semi-trucks. That's what my truck has now, right here in Tallahassee. I can not tell you how many different companies or how many different dealerships I've gone to that all these different brands have different makes, different models of electric trucks and I can not tell you how many times they did not have an electric truck available but had a diesel truck with this same exact spec just because of the market share thing.

What I would be asking Ford and others that want to sell electric trucks is that they make sure they have the resources they need to maintain a fleet of them. It's going to take a little time for that to happen, the infrastructure is not there yet. Like one guy told me, Ford is a giant but they don't need to be. They need to stop building trucks and work on developing the infrastructure. That guy makes the smart move but then you've got the truck manufacturers that just keep buying land and buying land thinking they will build things, it doesn't work that way.

I recently received a call from a very well-respected GM spokesperson at our sister blog, The Drive, with an interesting question about the new Ram 1500. The question: will the new Ram 1500 look like the previous model or will it be revamped? The spokesperson confirmed that after a recent visit to a local dealership, the impression is that the production version of the new Ram 1500 will not have a major visual difference from the current model, and will share a common front fascia and tailgate with the current model. In this day and age of visual marketing, the way the question was asked gave me a bit of pause. Yes, perhaps we have just gotten more used to seeing big trucks on the roads than we have in the past, but there is still no getting around the fact that the current Ram 1500 is a good looking truck. The truck also appears to be solidly performing, as evidenced by the fact that it is holding onto third place in our sales leaderboard in this early month of the 2026 model year.

Will the change be a complete makeover of the Ram 1500, or will it simply have updated versions of the interior and exterior trim? One can only speculate. We did find out more about the next-generation Ram 1500 on Wednesday (July 10), when the brand announced that an all-new powertrain lineup would be coming to North America. The two upcoming engines are expected to be a six-speed automatic engine that will be capable of generating 400 hp, and a gas-electric hybrid offering 300 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The new Ram 1500 is also expected to utilize a more sophisticated chassis that will be more refined than the outgoing model, as well as provide a more comfortable ride. With more development now coming to a finish, we expect that the current-generation Ram 1500 will be completely redesigned for its next generation sometime in 2026 or 2026. It will likely use a similar platform (current trucks share a common unibody structure) and carry over the same basic design elements as the outgoing model (front fascia, tailgate).

However, the exact shape of the next-gen Ram 1500 will likely be influenced by both the market it is selling to (North America, Mexico, etc.) and the various regions' preferences.
