UK motorists' cars are 'essential to daily life'
The report shows that more than four in five (84%) of motorists class their car as 'essential to daily life'. Dearth of public transport in a number of parts of the UK meant that only 3% of those surveyed said a car was 'not a necessity'.
63% of those surveyed are still driving their cars every day, even with ever-increasing fuel costs and insurance premiums. 42% are even driving for more than two hours every day. About half of these people (44%) chiefly use their car for going to and from their place of work, and 24% used their car for the weekly shop and other basic journeys.
The majority of those surveyed, which was 92%, say they are pro-actively adapting their driving habits to the rising fuel costs, by being less rough with their breaking, and staying off the accelerator pedal for longer.
