Price is the number one factor when buying a car

Price is the number one factor when buying a car
From the results of a new survey, we see that the price of a car is the most important factor that buyers look at when they are planning to purchase either a used or a new car.

In the poll, which asked respondents to list what they thought was important to look at when buying a car, along with their other car buying habits, we see that two thirds (66%) of motorists rank the price of a car as their main factor to concentrate on.

Coming next on the list of most important points to follow when buying a car is the fuel consumption of the new vehicle. With the price of fuel forever going up, 46% of those surveyed said that it was important to them to look at how thirsty for petrol their potential new purchase is. Number three on the list is the size of the car. Different size vehicles are good for different people and types of journey, so it makes sense that a third (33%) of respondents said this was important to them. And next up on the list of important factors is the cost of insurance for the new vehicle, with 28% of people using it as a way of deciding whether to buy a particular car.

Down at the bottom of the list, we see that the least important points when looking for a new car to buy, according to the survey's respondents, are the colour of it, with 15% seeing this as important, whether the vehicle has air con, with 12% citing this as a factor, and the presence of DAB radio, with only 2% bothering with this.

As might be expected, the points that both men and women look at when buying a car differ in some respects. Whilst the price and fuel efficiency of a vehicle top the charts for both genders, size of the car is less of an issue for women than it is for men, with 29% of females seeing it as an important factor compared to 35% of males. Women see car insurance cost as a more important factor than size, with 32% of thinking that their premiums are a critical aspect to buying a car compared to 26% of men.

The good news for car dealers and those wanting to sell on their current car is that almost a fifth (17%) of those surveyed were planning on buying a new or second hand car in the next six months.
