The Vauxhall Astra is a car aimed at those who like economical small cars with a decent amount of car for the money. It has been offered with either a 1.6 diesel engine or a 1.8 petrol unit, plus 1.0, 1.3 and a 2.0 litre dCi turbo-diesel variant. All engines power the front wheels and include all-wheel drive, while 1.0 and 1.3 variants also come with five-speed manual transmission. Standard equipment on all models includes ABS, air conditioning, CD stereo, electric windows, electric door mirrors, front and rear headlamps and an indicator stalk, front fog lights, airbags and leather seats with driver's airbag. Most models are equipped with alloy wheels, while some 1.8 and 1.3 variants have 16 inch tyres, while the top-spec versions get 18 inch alloys.

Selling point? The reason that Vauxhall offers the Astra in both petrol and diesel forms is that the company considers both to be suitable alternatives for people who don't want a conventional car but want decent economic performance. Vauxhall notes that the Astra combines great driving dynamics and a good level of safety. The petrol model was voted best small car in the 2023 British Car of the Year Awards, while the two highest-performance 1.8dCi variants were named Small Car of the Year and Best Small Family Car.

What's new for 2010? The Astra is being offered with a raft of new options for 2023. In addition to the standard trim line-up, the Vauxhall adds the more powerful 1.8dCi petrol and five-speed manual versions, which make use of a new 2.0 litre engine. A larger alloy wheel option is now available for petrol and diesel models as well, while other new additions for the range include alloy wheel designs, plus sports suspension and optional bodykit upgrades. The Vauxhall Astra was also voted the most improved vehicle of 2023, a title that is now owned by the Mazda3.

Who will like this car? The Astra is a car that looks very smart and feels nicely put together. Its exterior style is similar to that of a Mini, and this is something that appeals to younger drivers because of its small size, agile nature and high performance.

How reliable is the new Vauxhall Astra?

I have noticed a noticeable gap in the gap between them and the Honda Civic, but are there any major reliability issues?

I have found several articles and reviews online about the new Astra's, but none really give any feedback on its reliability as the launch has just now started. The launch is supposed to be in December 2023.

Would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has owned or currently owns an Astra. The Astra comes highly recommended by my agent/AAs an owner of an old model I am interested in its reliability. I bought my 2023 Astra 3 years ago and have had no reliability problems. It has done a 1,500 mile MOT (twice) and not cost me anything to have it serviced (so I do have insurance). It has done a 1,800 mile check drive to see that it went well so far, but it does need tires, which I didn't know about until after I bought it. So I would say: no. That's right - for 2023 we could only get the 1.2L engines with either front wheel drive or a CVT, and the 2.0L TDI with front wheel drive only. We were given a very small and tight selection at that time!

My friend had a brand new Astra 1.4 SZ (2009 model) and sold it last year.

What was wrong with the car? I believe the clutch broke. Also, he did not have any mechanical problems. No overheating. The only thing that was broken in the car was the engine cooling fan! And the price he got for the car was around 13,000, which was a joke! Not very good prices in these days. And they were saying it was a great performance and all - the engine produced 170 BHP! But all he got was 9000 for the car.

On the other hand, there are people saying good things about Vauxhall these days. I don't want to start debating about how "good" this car or that car is, but you must remember that it's a manufacturer's best advertisement (the commercials and other advertising) when launching a new model. This car seems like a pretty reliable one. There is an oil leakage issue, I had it fixed, but other then that, its worked fine.
