Continued growth in the new car market
Marking the end of the first quarter of 2013, and also the month bringing in the new 13 registration plates, March saw new car registrations climbing by 5.9 percent, to 394,806. This growth has been continuing for the last 13 months, with sales currently the best since 2010, when the market was being propped up by the car scrappage incentive.
Over the first quarter of 2013, new car registrations have risen by 7.4 percent, with 605,198 units being sold so far this year. Indeed, over the last 12 months growth in the market has been up by 7.2 percent over the previous year, rising to 2.086 million units being bought. This is thought mainly to be because of increases in private registrations sold.
Strong sales were seen by both Ford and Vauxhall in March. The ever-popular Ford Fiesta earned the crown of best seller as usual, shifting 22,748 units in the month, with the Vauxhall Corsa following on with 16,169 sales, and the Ford Focus snapping at it's heels with 15,434 sales. The two Ford models were also the top two sellers in the first quarter of the year.
