I'm looking for opinions from people who have actually used them. Here's my situation.I need to get my truck to work (school and my parents' house) every day at 8am. If the truck doesn't get there on time, I'll be late for school. Also, I'm going to be taking my truck to work occasionally on weekends. It's an 8-hour shift with a 2 hour commute. So, I need it to be reliable.

I need to know if this is a reliable vehicle, and how well it works with the way I intend to use it. I can't really see myself doing a 4 hour trip every day, so I really need it to get me to work, and maybe make some stops along the way. If it gets up to 140 miles on a tank of gas, that's fine. But I would like to know if it's a good value for the money, as well.

If I were to get a full-size truck (a full-size 4x4), and I was going to use it for an extended trip every week or so, then I'd get something else. Tacoma is a decent area, but there areas I think it would be very dangerous to live in. I know people have moved here and had good times, but when you mention Tacoma to someone, most don't even know what you are talking about. I will list a few neighborhoods, and I am sure you know a lot of other neighborhoods, but the areas I am talking about are the ones I think it would best to avoid.

For me, it is not so much about crime. For me it's about the "community" that I know I will not fit in to, and therefore will not want to live in. I hate being made fun of for living in this area, but I just do not enjoy the people in this area. I do not want to be the guy or the girl who gets into an argument because I like a different brand of beer, or who doesn't like the style of music they listen to.

When you live in these areas you will see the signs: "Golf course next door". "Churches that won't let you be gay". "Schools full of kids whose parents are drug dealers". "A lot of gangs". "No one cares if you have a gun in your house." I know the first one might be true, but the last two are not. I have a 2026 Toyota Tacoma with an extended cab. It has a 4.7L V6 that gets about 12 mpg highway and the engine isn't really that powerful. This truck is really starting to show some signs of age. In my area I can get pretty good deals on a Tacoma but I am looking at a 2026 Hilux. Both trucks are roughly the same size and weight. I have owned a 2026 Toyota Tundra with the 5.4L V8 and I loved it. The 4.7L V6 in the Tacoma just seems like the engine is underpowered. But I hear that the Hilux is a lot more refined. Is this true? And if so, does it make the Tacoma seem like a poor car? Should I stay with the Tacoma or get the Hilux?

The tundra and hilux both seem to have about the same size and weight, so if they both have about the same weight then no there's no problem there. What will make the hilux better than the tundra is the 6 speed transmission which will be great for you since your a stick driver, but it might not be as good if you need to shift. There are a few other things the hilux is better at though:

Hilux wins in the tow stakes, with a max tow of 6,900 lbs versus the Tundra's 4,400. Hilux wins in the cab space department, with nearly double the space inside the cab, compared to the tundra. Hilux has more features, most notably an AM/FM stereo with CD player. Hilux has better ground clearance than the tundra. If you're willing to trade off a little interior room for more power and a lot more towing capacity, then I would say go for the Hilux. If you want to maximize your interior space I would suggest buying an extended cab 4x4 Tacoma instead of an extra cab and not spending the extra money on the hilux.

I've always liked the look of the Hilux but it's a lot of money. If I had more money, I'd probably buy the Hilux.
