Subaru started out life producing aircraft and in the second World War they produced most of the planes used by the Japanese. They are famous for their use of the boxer style engine and using four wheel drive systems in there road going cars.
Throughout the 80's and 90's the company had a big effect on the World Rally championship with their range of all-wheel drive, turbo charged, boxer engine WRX Imprezza range. They also had a brief run in Formula One which wasn't really a success and the company pulled out before the season ended.
This rally pedigree helped the company's sales globally. But the economic downturn has seen the company pull out of rallying in recent years and currently they have no motor sport involvement.
To this day the company still uses it's famed boxer and AWD systems through out there range which has proven to be a great combination and popular seller for the company.
