Seat is a Spanish based car manufacturer. At first it's cars were just rebadged Fiats. Fiat eventually took a large share in Seat which saw them together for thirty years. Eventually under threat from many other manufacturers, Fiat gave up control of the company which saw Seat's first home grown car produced in 1982.
During this period they developed a few cars until the Audi group took an interest in them becoming a major shareholder of Seat in 1986 and eventually total ownership in 1990.
This saw more and more of the giant car makers technology being used in the Seat range over the ensuing years and the company start to export more of it's range. As a consequence of this the company also entered a team into the Touring Car racing series in an attempt to raise the profile of the brand.
Nowadays the Seat is regarded by many as the budget arm of Volkswagen as so much of the parent companies technology is now used it is hard to tell them apart.
