Citroen started production in 1919 being the first mass car producer outside of the USA. During it's life the company has remained a manufacturer of popular cars aimed at the budget market.
Even with this they have been responsible for many innovations and unique designs. The Citoen 2CV was one such design and is the car that many people even to this day associate with the company name. So popular was this little car that they stayed in production with only minor changes until 1990, which is over 40 years. There are few other cars which can claim this length of production run.
After a number of years of struggling financially the company joined with one of their closest rivals Peugeot to form PSA Peugeot Citroen. The new company has gone from strength to strength in Western Europe where it's main market place is, with many strong and revolutionary designs in the budget car market.
