Originally built and designed for use by the U.S military and manufactured by AM General and arm of General Motors. In the militaries hands the Hum-Vee proved to be a great adaptable vehicle and can be seen being used for many military purposes.
In the 1980's plans started to be made for a civilian version after there was great interest from the public about these vehicles. After the publicity that the Hum-Vee gained AM General started to produce a version for civilian use in 1992.
1998 saw the brand being sold to General Motors who took over the marketing and sales while AM General took care of the manufacture. 2006 saw the end of production of the original Hum-Vee and GM developed two new models. The H2 which is produced by AM General and the H3 which is produced along side some of GM's other models in LA.
Although the original Hum-Vee is no longer available the newer models have proven themselves to be just as hard wearing and versatile as the originals. Of course the newer models offer far more refinements than the originals ever could offer.
