Daihatsu unusually manufacture both small city type cars along with a range of budget off road capable cars. Founded in Japan in 1951, it didn't take them long to see the potential in markets abroad, starting to sell their range in Europe in the 1960's.

As with other Japanese they didn't see much market share until the mid 1980's where the cost effective Japanese cars started to flood into Europe rocking the European motor industry.

Although Daihatsu's have never been a massive seller their range of 4x4's have developed a large following of loyal fans who see the cost effective solution combined with Japanese reliability as a great car.

Daihatsu have never exported directly into the North American market, although their fellow Japanese manufacturers Toyota have done and are also responsible for it's sales in many other countries.
